Create an asura, that should be the fastest felt race. If i play my asura some hours and then switch to norn it feels like im walking in deep mud. But to answer your question directly, all races/classes have the same base speed. Maximum speed increase is 33% through skills.
Yeah, I had made 6 races for people to play as (Charr, Tengu, Human, Norn, Asura, and Golem) I kept to just these because our timeline was closer to GW 1 than GW2. But that's as far as I got. I was working on classes, but I couldn't find the right place to start. I had 14 classes I wanted to design between the 2 games and the spells within 5e
They probably will in one capacity or another. To be honest every class seems to have a decent mix of complicated and uncomplicated classes. There's the Ele Piano meme but Catalyst is far less crazy than other eles from what I'm hearing from friends (though they are bias'd). Besides Mirages are still insanely good and Chronos aren't half bad. Send out a bolt that steals a boon from your foe and gives them one condition from you. Radiation Field. Vent Radiation. 45. Vent radioactive gas to poison nearby foes. Technobabble. Confusing Speech. 45. Confuse nearby foes with complex calculations.

Any class is viable in this game unless you want to focus on a specific try hard mode. The lesser played classes are not bad, they are just a bit quirky and not for everyone. You get 5 slots, more than enough to try out classes, delete those that don't click for you and keep the ones that do.

The reasons for adding a new race would be: A new playable race. New stories and lore. Adding a few racial skills and elites. A new city and zone for 1-15 levels that do not affect the core plot with Zhaitan/LS 1 and 2. Appease fans who are asking for it.
When any other race tames a wolf, it's tuesday, but when an Asura tames a wolf it is an epic triumph over a monstrous beast. Female Norn Mesmer. Most people make their mesmers waifish and small, but IMO it is a lot more interesting to have the mysterious illusionist be an impossibly large woman. Actually I would have to add Engineer to the Asurans, as they're hands down the most technologically advanced race in Tyria. Guardian and Ranger would be suitable for the Norns as well. And I might add a magic class for the Charr, I remember in GW1 fighting alot of Charr elementalists and necromancers. Lots of Charr rangers too.
There's almost 0 chances for new classes, since they release new elite specializations now. Some make professions feel like a completely new class, but that's the closest it'll get. The chances for a new race are also extremely small, unless the extra time the next expansion is taking is to make the personal story and for a new race. 17.

The Races of Tyria. Asura; Sylvari; Human; Norn; Charr; Professions. Engineer; Necromancer; Thief; Elementalist; Warrior; Ranger; Mesmer; Guardian; Combat; Instanced Combat; Dynamic Events; Personal Story; Competitive Play; Releases. Living World

Race is flavor only, changing some parts of the story and dialogues. Most racial skills are useless, and this is by design. Some racial skills are useful at endgame, because the good skills were nerfed, but it should change soon. You can create a good thief with any race you want, so no worries. Have fun :D. .
